Rumor: Matt Reeves’ The Batman Project Started Hiring Production Crew

There is still an air of uncertainty, but it’s something.

With the releases of Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984, things could be going really well for DC but some questions remain on the character of Batman who has yet to receive a standalone film despite being in three DCEU films. It looks like we’re getting something in the works as rumor suggests that a production crew is being hired for Matt Reeves’ The Batman.

There’s a ton of uncertainty as to where this Batman project may go. Some have suggested that Matt Reeves’ project will not be fitting into the DCEU continuity but will be a connected with the DCEU-separate Joker film. This would probably cause some to wonder if Ben Affleck would reprise his role as the caped crusader. Nonetheless, it looks like the film is pushing through according to rumors from Batman on Film reporting that Reeves is already hiring people for the project. It says,”that “they” are starting to hire people to work on the film.  If so, that means that “they” are moving towards pre-production and filming could start at some point relatively soon, maybe.”

If this is really the case, it seems that the film could be looking at a 2020 or latest 2021 release date and chances are, production could commence in early 2019 or late 2018. This honestly isn’t much to work with and it does nothing to alleviate the uncertainty as to where this film would be going in regards to aligning with the DCEU films or not. It does look like much of the future of this film relies on the reception of upcoming DCEU films as to whether this project would align with its continuity.

Well hopefully Aquaman, Shazam! and Wonder Woman 1984 would be able to pull it off but it does seem like The Batman would make a great film whether or not it falls under the DCEU. Matt Reeves has proven himself to be a great filmmaker with his work on Cloverfield and the recent Planet of the Apes films. If anyone can deliver a great standalone Batman film, he wouldn’t be a bad bet.
