Solo: A Star Wars Story may be fresh in our minds, but the Star Wars machine has no off switch. Not long after Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released, Lucasfilm announced that Rian Johnson would be directing his own Star Wars trilogy that is in no way connected to anything in the saga that is George Lucas’ story. And now, new details on the film have emerged.
Thanks to Rian Johnson’s producing partner Ram Bergman, we now have an update on the project and what we can expect from it. During a recent interview with From the Grapevine, he reiterated what we already know about the films.
It’s a completely new trilogy that writer-director Rian Johnson, my partner, is going to create,” Bergman confirmed. “It’s all new characters. Everything is new.
When asked about when we could expect to see the first of these movies arrive in theaters, he had this to say.
I can’t tell you because we don’t know yet. Maybe in two years; it’s just in the early stages.
The project is still very much in its infancy and we’re looking at a lot of Star Wars projects coming out in the next few years, so 2 years could be a tad too soon. This also means that it must be a high priority for Lucasfilm.
There’s a lot of uncertainty at the moment, especially with the Solo: A Star Wars Story not being received quite as favorably as expected. However, with new trilogies coming from both Johnson and the Game of Thrones showrunners, as well as James Mangold’s reported Boba Fett standalone movie, there’s plenty more for Star Wars fans to sink their teeth into.
