Geoff Johns will write and produce Warner Bros.’s planned Green Lantern Corps movie. This comes as part of Johns’ new exclusive deal with Warner Bros./DC Entertainment following his departure as a company executive. DC announced that the movie will be based on Johns’ own nine-year run on the Green Lantern comic book title.
Johns will be stepping down from his post as DC Entertainment president, which he’s held since only 2016, and Chief Creative Officer, which he’s been since 2010, in order to take on an exclusive writer-producer deal with both Warner Bros. and DC. The deal comes through Johns’ newly launched production banner Mad Ghost Productions where he’ll develop content for movies, TV, and comics.
Here’s what Johns had to say about the move.
I took on a role at DCE because I love the characters and this universe more than anything. But, I want to spend my days writing and on set. I’m thrilled to get back to a more hands-on creative role. It’s a dream job on dream projects, reaching even deeper into DC’s vast pantheon of characters.
Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, is excited they are to have Johns and his new production banner, Mad Ghost Productions, working on DC projects.
Geoff is a super talented writer and truly embedded in the DC Universe and its characters. We’re thrilled that he’s returning to his passion and his roots as a writer and producer. And, it’s even better that he’s staying in our Warner Bros. family. We look forward to working with him on ‘Green Lantern’ and other projects going forward.
Johns has spent the vast majority of his creative career at DC, first as a writer and then as DC’s Chief Creative Officer. Now, Johns is launching Mad Ghost Productions, his own production banner that will cover his work on film, TV, and even comic book projects. The Green Lantern Corps movie will be one of Johns’ first movies under Mad Ghost
Green Lantern Corps. was one of the movies announced when the DC Extended Universe first became a thing, but it’s also one of the ones no one is really talking about. The DC Extended Universe has needed a guiding hand for a long time now, and it looks like Johns got offered a deal to do just that.
