It was the most shocking moment of the Marvel epic. Having failed to stop Thanos acquiring all six Infinity Stones, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes found themselves helpless in stopping Thanos, and with one quick snap of his fingers, the Mad Titan succeeded in his goal of wiping out half of all life in the universe. The result of the Snap saw half the universe turn to ash. It was certainly a shocking ending to Infinity War. But what happens next?

A new piece of art perfectly illustrates exactly what happens next. Artist Stephen Byrne shared his version of the aftermath of Thanos’ iconic moment. The remaining heroes return to Wakanda and reunite with Shuri. The heroes look broken, beaten and defeated, as Okoye, Captain America, War Machine, Hulk, Black Widow, Rocket Raccoon, and Thor all make their way back to Wakanda. The look on Okoye and Cap’s faces tell Shuri everything she needs to know.

Her brother T’Challa is gone, along with all the other heroes that did battle that day. It’s certainly a heartbreaking image and it might be a glimpse of what’s to come in Avengers 4. It would certainly make for sombre viewing if Avengers 4 opens like that. There are some minor, clever details in the picture above. Hulk in his Hulkbuster armour being one of that. Thor’s Stormbreaker handle having its half turned to dust, being another.
