Actress Katherine Langford, who stars as protagonist Hannah Baker in the controversial teen drama 13 Reasons Why, has confirmed that fans will no longer be seeing her character in the upcoming seasons. Since the season two debut of 13 Reasons Why many viewers have wondered whether Langford would continue on as Hannah Baker. Although there was prior speculation that season two would be Katherine’s last, a new Instagram post from the star has apparently confirmed the news.
Katherine shared the news of her character’s upcoming departure from the series accompanied with an image of a Hannah Baker mural. She captioned the photo with a message for the crew and fans of the series, writing: “‘Hannah…I love you…and I let you go’ Those are the words I was able to say six months ago, and now can finally share with you…As most of you know @13reasonswhy was my first ever job and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Hannah’s story so fully in season 1, and to be asked back for a season 2.”
Langford thanked the cast and crew as well as fans in her post. “Thank you to @netflix @paramountpics @anoncontent, the incredible producers, creatives, cast and crew for making these last two years so special. And to all of you here – Thankyou for filling my life with love and light,” she wrote.
She closed the post with a note of reflection regarding the series, writing: “This show will always be a special part of my life, and regardless of whether Hannah is there or not, I know that I will continue to strive to do work that is meaningful and has a positive impact – whether that be in film, music, or any other form of art. There is a lot coming up this next year, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”
The 22-year-old actress was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the first season. She appeared as Hannah in flashbacks for the other characters in the second season after Hannah committed suicide in the first.
There’s been no confirmation of a third season of 13 Reasons Why just yet, but if it does get renewed, it definitely won’t be the same without Hannah Baker.
