The last few months have been huge for Marvel fans, as they’ve been treated to not one, not two but three massive films in Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. And now we’ve been treated to the news that work is already underway for a sequel to Black Panther.
After Black Panther shattered expectations earlier this year, it looks as though director Ryan Coogler is going the extra mile in his planning of the film’s sequel. Coogler is courting some big names to join the franchise’s ranks. According to the Metro, he wants to enlist Donald Glover for this sequel and is also considering Michael B. Jordan.
An insider told the news site:
“Ryan Coogler is currently mapping out Black Panther’s sequel and has written in a number of new characters that movie-goers will be introduced to when it premieres. One of those characters, if he gets his wish, will be played by Childish Gambino. Nothing is set in stone but ‘informal talks’ [are happening] between Ryan, Gambino and reps from Marvel and Disney to see if they can make it happen.”
Coogler is still weighing a return for Killmonger, the source said, and an appearance could rest on Glover’s decision.
“They’re still yet to decide if Michael B. Jordan will return in some capacity but if he doesn’t it’s likely Gambino may play some kind of villain.”
However, considering the source of this report, it is best to take this news with a pinch of salt. Black Panther 2 is still a few years away, so a lot of things could change. We’ll just have to wait and see whether anything materialises of these rumours.
Black Panther 2 does not currently have a release date.
