Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick reveal they want to see Ryan Reynolds’ Merc with a Mouth team up with Chris Evans’ Captain America in a future movie. Deadpool and the rest of 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Universe have been entirely separate from Marvel Studio’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, that hasn’t stopped fans of Fox’s Marvel properties and Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe from fantasising some pretty interesting crossovers.
Earlier this week at the film’s press junket in New York City, CBR went straight to the source, Deadpool 2 screenwriters and executive producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, to get the scoop. They were asked if there were any X-Force members that they wanted to use for Deadpool 2 but weren’t able to secure the rights to. They joked around and mentioned that they wanted to use Spider-Man, which brought up the subject of the Fox and Disney merger. After that was brought up, the idea to bring Steve Rogers into the fold was mentioned. Per Reese,
I’m so bummed – I want Chris Evans to stay Captain America forever, because I just want to see Deadpool and Captain America doing stuff together, but I don’t think that dream will come true.
His comments are in reference to Evans’ MCU contract being up after Avengers 4. Evans has been coy on his future after Avengers 4, but he has hinted at not coming back. We may never get to see Deadpool team up with Evans’ Captain America it seems.
Evans was actually almost in Deadpool 2 as Human Torch for a post-credits scene. However, Reese and Wernick revealed that despite it being their intention from the beginning, they never got around to asking Evans because they ended up thinking of something better.
Deadpool 2 is out in cinemas now.
