Jane Foster Might Return To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

I wonder where she’s been all this time.

The following contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

It’s been a while since Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster has graced the screens of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Her last appearance was in the lackluster, Thor: The Dark World and her absence in Thor: Ragnarok was explained with a mere “they broke up” exposition thread in the film. However, it seems that there’s a chance the astrophysicist might make a return to the franchise.

Directors of Avengers: Infinity War, Anthony and Joe recently hinted at her return when speaking to Huffington Post when asked about the survivors of the infamous Thanos’ “finger snap”. The directors provided the names of some of the characters that fell victim to it but when asked about Jane Foster, in particular, they refused to answer. They responded by saying:

“When we say [spoiler], we mean potential spoiler”.

This doesn’t really mean that Foster would be in the next Avengers or whatever’s next for the franchise but it could mean that Marvel Studios has a plan for her character or at least something in mind. There have been reports of some problems between Portman and Marvel during the days of The Dark World but a lot has changed since then. Portman herself has recently confirmed her willingness to return to MCU if asked.

This may all seem like speculation but Foster could play a big part in Avengers 4 based on how skilled of a scientist she is, perhaps becoming an important ally in the battle against Thanos. Foster has gone through a lot from the previous Thor films, not counting Ragnarok of course and is one of the most knowledgeable humans on the matter of cosmic forces.

Nonetheless, it would be exciting to see Foster back as it was a huge disservice to her character to just drop her in Ragnarok, pulling a Transformers: Dark of the Moon (only this time without a replacement and an actual good film). Her character deserves a role beyond just Thor’s ex-girlfriend and lets’ hope Marvel delivers.
