Massive Online Support Saves Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Nine Nine!!!

In an interesting turn of events, NBC picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine merely one day after Fox announced its cancellation. Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s initial cancellation caused fans and celebrities to lose their collective shits online. Using hashtags such as #Brooklyn99 and #SaveB99, fans pretty much rioted all over Twitter.

Well, it looks like our voices were heard! NBC has picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine for a sixth season, the network announced in a Tweet.

According to Varietythe chairman of NBC Entertainment claims that he regrets selling the critically acclaimed cop sitcom to Fox in the first place.

“Ever since we sold this show to Fox I’ve regretted letting it get away, and it’s high time it came back to its rightful home. Mike Schur, Dan Goor, and Andy Samberg grew up on NBC and we’re all thrilled that one of the smartest, funniest, and best cast comedies in a long time will take its place in our comedy line-up. I speak for everyone at NBC, here’s to the Nine-Nine!”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is arguably the best sitcom of this generation, yes much, much better than the likes of How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory. However, despite its critical acclaim, the show did not pull in big numbers. Season 4 of Brooklyn Nine-Nine only pulled in an average 2.87 million viewers which is peanuts when compared to Big Bang Theory’s season 10 average viewership of 18.9 million.

However, unlike shows like Big Bang Theory which has over the years devolved into one-dimensional stupid “smart” characters saying and doing silly things, Brooklyn Nine-Nine actually has fully realised characters, each with distinct and unique personalities. The show also constantly brings to light important issues such as racism and LGBT, in an interesting and humorous manner.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 will have 13 episodes, compared to the usual 22-23.
