The Harlem based superhuman is back with more trouble brewing in the city and new foes to take on. The trailer for season 2 of Marvel’s Netflix series Luke Cage dropped and a new challenge is arising for the impenetrable hero.
Luke Cage, played by Mike Colter is an ex-convict who possesses superhuman strength and unbreakable skin following a sabotaged experiment. With this, he fights crime and corruption in the city of Harlem. The first season was one of the highlights from Marvel’s television franchise and following the events of The Defenders (featuring the likes of other heroes: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist), season 2 will bring the titular hero back to Harlem.
The trailer for season 2 suggests that Luke Cage has reached celebrity status in Harlem as its citizens look up to him and criminals fear him. However, it also suggests vulnerability on the part of Cage as a new villain assaults him on the street, barehanded. That villain goes by the name of Bushmaster, played by Mustafa Shakir.
Bushmaster seems like a formidable threat to Cage as Harlem reacts anxiously to his assault on Cage. The trailer also suggests that Bushmaster possesses the abilities similar to Cage’s such as superhuman strength and bulletproof skin. From here, we can expect to see some interesting encounters in season 2. The trailer also boasts the return of fan favorites such as Misty Knight (Simone Missick), Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard) and Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson).
Following the success of Marvel’s success on the big screen with Avengers: Infinity War, their venture in the small screen still remains something to look forward to despite some failures (*ahem* Iron Fist…). However, from the looks of it, they’re picking themselves back up with recent releases with the likes of The Punisher and Jessica Jones season 2.
