Christopher McQuarrie Will Direct Man Of Steel 2 If Henry Cavill Asks

It’s almost like he’s waiting for the first move

Man of Steel 2 could dawn upon us soon if Warner Bros. plays their cards right. Mission: Impossible-Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie seems to be on everyone’s mind to helm the project but the director would likely only direct if Superman actor himself, Henry Cavill asks.

Both McQuarrie and Cavill have worked together on Fallout with Cavill taking on the role of antagonist, August Walker against Tom Cruise’s iconic Ethan Hunt. Cavill’s role in Fallout required him to sport a mustache and filming also took place the same time as Justice League. This obviously caused some complications for Warner Bros as CGI was required to digitally remove the mustache which in turn didn’t help the look of Superman in the film.

In an interview with CinePOP, McQuarrie was pressed on the topic of Man of Steel 2 as to whether he’d be interested to direct, he replied:

If Henry asked me to, sure, why not?”.

It’s obvious that McQuarrie is interested and is just waiting for an offer from Warner Bros. McQuarrie seems to be a viable option for the film as he has proven himself as a good action director with the critically acclaimed Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation.

The state of the DC Extended Universe is uncertain and sometimes troubling for fans, especially when compared to the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The MCU seems to have a plan that seems to be going relatively well but the DCEU only has a few films on track with their releases and developments:  Aquaman, Shazam along with the sequel to (probably) their only good film, Wonder Woman.

Bringing McQuarrie along is a step on the right path or at least a step nonetheless. Man of Steel 2 has been in limbo for too long and it seems strange to have the iconic Superman on the hook for this long. Maybe it’s the mustache fiasco that’s really keeping them from making the first move, but who knows?
