This is HUGE! For weeks now the rumour mill has been churning with people speculating that Vijay Sethupathi will be acting alongside Superstar Rajinikanth in Superstar’s next movie — this will be after Kaala and 2.0 — and finally, we have gotten confirmation.
Sun Pictures, the production and distribution company tweeted earlier that Vijay Sethupathi will for the very first time, star alongside one of the biggest Indian movie stars, Rajinikanth.

Neither the production company nor the director provided any more details. However, based on the people who are involved in the film, I speculate that this movie is going to be much more grounded than many of Rajinikanth’s previous films. Karthik Subbaraj is a talented director who helmed realistic, character-driven dramas and like Iraivi and Jigarthanda. His most recent film, Mercury is a silent film, similar in concept to John Krasinski’s A Quiet Place. I also speculate that Vijay Sethupathi, who previously worked with Karthik Subbaraj in Iraivi, will be playing the antagonist in this film.
Vijay Sethupathi is one of the best actors working in India today and so this pairing is ridiculously exciting. This currently untitled film also has Anirudh Ravichander as its composer. Anirudh is arguably the most popular Indian composer right now, delivering one hit dance anthem after another, film after film.
It is still unclear when exactly the production of this film will begin, considering the hectic schedules of everybody involved. Rajinikanth is set to release two HUGE movies this year, Kaala and 2.0, while Vijay Sethupathi is currently working with acclaimed director Mani Ratnam in Chekka Chivantha Vanam. Director Karthik Subbaraj just helmed Mercury, which is out in cinemas right now, while Anirudh is busy making music for Kolamavu Kokila, starring Nayanthara and Aako.
