You know the masterfully thrilling movie everyone has been talking about (Or at least was talking about until Infinity War stole its thunder)? The one that had everyone so nervous to even munch on their popcorn in fear of DYING. Yeap, A Quiet Place. Well, it looks like the brilliant John Krasinski movie is getting a sequel nobody asked for.
As reported by Variety, Paramount Pictures is currently working on a sequel to the critically acclaimed A Quiet Place, the studio’s chairman-CEO Jim Gianopulos said at CinemaCon. He had this to say:
“We’re thrilled to say that we’re already working on the sequel to A Quiet Place.”
However, Gianopulos did not provide further details, including if director John Krasinski will be returning.
A Quiet Place is a success at the box office, grossing over US$ 214.7 million dollars at the global box office, including more than US$ 1.7 million dollars at the Malaysian box office. It currently has a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes with an average rating of 8.2/10.
Which is why it makes sense from a studio’s perspective to want to create a sequel. That said, some movies should be left alone. While there is room for the A Quiet Place mythology to be explored, the movie functions well and perhaps functions best as a singular, standalone, survival movie. We don’t need to know why the world ended up the way it is and we do not need to know if the humans fought back against the creatures and eventually triumphed. This movie works so well because we put one family under the microscope and explore their relationship and how they overcome adversities. Making a sequel, especially if John Krasinski doesn’t return to the director’s chair, would be a giant kick in the nuts.
John Krasinski and his real-life wife Emily Blunt star in A Quiet Place, a movie which followed a family as they struggle to hide from creatures who hunt by sound.
