In an age of American media, where comedians seem to be practising proper journalism, while (some mainstream) journalists are proving to be increasingly comical and definitely not to be taken seriously, Hasan Minhaj was one of the best. The Indian-American comedian is most known for his fantastic Netflix series, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj which tackles topics that matter (politics, culture, current affairs) in an in-depth and comedic manner. Much like John Oliver’s Late Night show, Patriot Act is incredibly insightful and entertaining.
Unfortunately, Netflix has decided to cancel the series. Minhaj broke the news on Twitter, praising the writers, researchers, animators and producers that he worked with over the years.
“What a run. Patriot Act has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY [Thank you] to Netflix and everyone who watched. Now it’s time to return these screens to Best Buy.”

It’s currently unclear why Netflix has decided to end the show. But the timing of it is certainly a bummer. Given the current sociopolitical climate in the US, shows like Minaj’s Patriot Act is exactly the kind of antidote needed to get through the day.
Patriot Act premiered on the streaming service in October 2018 and released 39 episodes.
