Atomic Blonde 2 is Currently in Development at Netflix

Atomic Blonde is arguably the most underrated action film in recent memory. The film released in cinemas in 2017 with limited fanfare, grossing only $US 100 million at the global box office. Make no mistake, it was still a financial success, considering its US$ 30 million production budget. But it’s one of those films that should’ve made a bigger splash than it did. Atomic Blonde is an espionage action flick directed by David Leitch, who was the uncredited co-director of John Wick 1 and the director of Deadpool 2, and stars Charlize Theron. The film, especially THE staircase fight, kicks so much ass, your buttocks will be sore just by watching it.

Given the film’s overall fanfare, though, I was confident that it wasn’t going to get a sequel that graces a big screen. Thankfully, we live in an era where there are alternative avenues for a small, gritty action flick like Atomic Blonde, to not only find an audience, but also thrive. I am, of course, talking about streaming platforms. And whatdoyaknow, it looks like an Atomic Blonde sequel is not only currently in the works, it will be heading to Netflix.

Charlize Theron disclosed this juicy bit of information in an interview with Total Film. She said:

“We took [Atomic Blonde 2] to them and Scott Stuber [Head of Original Films at Netflix] was really interested in it. We talked to him about it extensively, and we’re in the process of writing it right now. That character was set up in a way where she didn’t really reveal much of herself. So I feel like there’s a lot of potential there. The bar’s pretty high, but we’re excited about it.”
