David Leitch has established himself as one of the best action directors of world cinema today. Together with his partner in crime, Chad Stahelski, Leitch raised the bar of the Hollywood action genre with 2014’s surprise hit, John Wick.
While Stahelski helmed the second and third John Wick films himself, Leitch went on to work on films like Deadpool 2, Hobbs & Shaw and Atomic Blonde, which has one of the coolest most badass action sequences in the history of mankind (outside of Indonesia). Yes, I’m talking about the stairwell fight scene in which Charlize Theron brutalizes some dumbass thugs. So, it’s only natural that I get excited over a new David Leitch project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David Leitch is currently working on an action-thriller titled Bullet Train, which will “centre around a group of hitmen and assassins with conflicting motives on a train in Tokyo.” The film is being compared to the likes of Speed and the 2014 Liam Neeson starter, Non-Stop. As of now, the plan is to start production in the fall of 2020.
Those involved in the project believe that given that the film is meant to be shot on one contained set, it will be easier to operate under the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
