Shazam! is definitely looking to be something worth watching as early reactions for the DC flick are out. The DCEU had a rocky start but it looks like things are looking up for the franchise thanks to last year’s Aquaman. Yeah, 2017’s Wonder Woman initially proved that they could make good films but Justice League kinda proved otherwise that same year. Well now, it looks like we may be able to add another solid DC film to the list alongside the aforementioned Wonder Woman and Aquaman.
Early reactions for Shazam! have surfaced on Twitter and the film looks like it’s not going to disappoint. Starring Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Mark Strong, Grace Fulton and Djimon Honsou among others, the David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) directed film looks like it’s going to be a fun time at the cinemas. Check out some of the reactions below:
#Shazam is emotionally uneven, yet absolutely FUN. @ZacharyLevi perfects Shazam, though @Jgrazerofficial is the real hero here. All in all, it's an average superhero movie – but it's one that feels like a breath of fresh air. pic.twitter.com/zwfG1hqidE

Finally allowed to say that #Shazam was fantastic! Full of heart and pure childhood wish fulfillment. It's funny and the tone is exactly right. @zacharylevi is perfect in the role, and so is @asherangel, who I'm convinced is @maisie_williams' brother! pic.twitter.com/DXhp2ZBteR

@ZacharyLevi exudes charisma and playfulness throughout, while showing the vulnerability and strength needed to pull off the superhero gig. He’s got the spark, to be sure, and I hope to see #Shazam pop up again and again in the DCEU, be it solo or team-up. @joblocom @ShazamMovie

#Shazam is an absolute delight! Super vibrant, tons of heart & a great fun-loving vibe. The family element is a big charmer & so is the humor that comes with watching @ZacharyLevi explore his new powers. Said this after IT but it's worth repeating – @Jgrazerofficial is a star.

Zachary Levi was born to play #Shazam He delivers lots of laughs alongside co-star Jack Dylan Grazer. The film packs some big surprises for comics buffs and offers enough mainstream appeal to win over new fans. Shazam’s strengths definitely outweigh its weaknesses. pic.twitter.com/kfFMW01jfO

#Shazam is parts Home Alone, parts Big, a crowd pleasing family-friendly joy-filled wish-fulfillment superhero film which gets a bit over the top and cheesy at times. It’s fun and funny, and I was surprised at how much it wears it’s heart on its sleeve.

Yep, sounds like Shazam! is keeping the ball rolling for DC. It looks like the franchise has really come a long way in regards to tone since its dark and brooding Batman V. Superman days. You gotta wonder if they would ever go back to that cause it does seem like they’re going the more fun route these days which isn’t really a bad thing. We might get darker stuff in the future cause there are still some pretty edgy content on the way with the likes of Birds of Prey and the DCEU-separate Joker so there may be something for the broody folks out there.
Shazam! is scheduled to be released on April 5, 2019
