Avengers: Infinity War opened with Thanos and his generals attacking the few Asgardians who survived the events of Thor: Ragnarok.
If that wasn’t bad enough, the Asgardians watched their home being taken over by an evil sword god, then destroyed by a fire giant. Half of those survivors were murdered by Thanos and his Black Order, and then the remaining half were snapped out of existence when the Mad Titan obtained the Infinity Stones.
A user on Reddit came up with an Infinity War theory that explains why Thanos decided to be especially harsh on the Asgardian population.
The Infinity War theory suggests that Thanos is totally aware of the races that live long and by radically reducing them he more effectively serves his purpose. Considering that the Asgardians live up to 5000 years and breed as much as humans do, they totally fit Thanos’ bill.
