Steven Spielberg Set To Direct His First Superhero Movie

Spielberg directing a superhero movie? BRING. IT. ON.

Steven Spielberg has done it all in his near 40-year career. What separates him from most top-notch directors and producers is his versatility, ranging from horror to sci-fi to historical films. One genre he’s yet to venture into is the superhero genre. Having already teamed up with Warner Bros for the hit Ready Player One, they’re set to reunite as they take on Blackhawk, a DC comic character. Spielberg will produce this film and surely he’ll be tempted to direct. He seemed chuffed about reuniting with Warner Bros. In a statement, he had this to say:

“It was wonderful working with the team at Warner Bros. to bring Ready Player One to the screen. They bring a blend of passion and professionalism to everything they do and have a tremendous history in this genre. I am excited to reunite with them on Blackhawk.”

David Koepp, who collaborated with Spielberg on numerous projects, such as Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds will be writing the screenplay. Kristie Macosko Krieger will be producing the film and Sue Kroll assumes the role of executive producer.

Blackhawk is about an ace pilot, fighting for the Allies with his fabled Blackhawk Squadron, set in the World War II era. Considering Spielberg’s history with films set in that time setting as well as his history with political films, Blackhawk should be right up his alley.

It’ll certainly be fascinating to see Spielberg wander into the unknown and there will definitely be high expectations for this film. No estimated production or release date has been disclosed, for now, so, do watch this space.
