Shooting For Suicide Squad 2 Delayed To 2019

Hopefully, the wait pays off…

Things aren’t looking great for DC fans, as shooting for Suicide Squad 2 has been pushed to 2019. Suicide Squad acclaimed huge box office success in 2016, however, the movie was considered a flop by critics. Expectations were sky high, and rightly so, yet it failed to live up to its hype, according to the general consensus. Suicide Squad 2 was originally penciled in for a shooting this fall, however, this is all changing, as per Variety’s Justin Kroll.

As for Suicide Squad 2, clearly moving out of 2018 shoot. The move to go with [Birds of Prey] not only had a lot to do with [Christina Hodson]’s script, but also the idea of doing with Batgirl what Marvel did with Black Panther in [Captain America: Civil War] by introducing them into universe before giving them [their] own film.

It looks like it may be some time before we see the release of Suicide Squad 2, as Birds Of Prey looks like the more appealing project. DC look at this project as the perfect way to introduce Batgirl’s character to the DC universe, before moving on to a standalone film. It was announced earlier that Cathy Yan would be directing Birds Of Prey, with Margot Robbie set to produce and star.

Suicide Squad 2 is estimated to release sometime in 2020. One of the criticisms thrown at Suicide Squad was that production was rushed. Writer and director, David Ayer was only afforded 6 weeks to formulate his script. These are all possible factors as to why Suicide Squad bombed hard. Hopefully, with this delay, more time is given to polish the finer details, and result in a much better end product.
