Steven Spielberg Is The First Director To Earn US$10 Billion

All hail the king!

Steven Spielberg is arguably one of the most influential filmmakers of all time having achieved both critical and commercial success on various fronts. Having boasted a slew of box office hits and critically acclaimed masterpieces, he tops the charts again as he is now the first director to earn US$10 billion at the global box office.

With the release of Ready Player One, Spielberg managed to achieve something that not too many acclaimed directors have. Although it only topped the box office spot for one weekend, the film is now one of the highest grossing films of 2018. The Wrap calculated his proceedings based off the numbers at Box Office Mojo and discovered that he has garnered this milestone with US$3 billion more than the next director on the list, Peter Jackson from Lord of The Rings success.

These numbers are no surprise however as Spielberg is credited as the director who basically created the modern day summer blockbuster with his 1975 classic, Jaws. Not only that, many of his films have topped the box office charts yearly with films like E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and Jurassic Park. Even his more mature works such as Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan have made their way into the top 10 box-office charts during their respective years, something that is rarely seen today.

Spielberg’s success is undoubtedly well-earned, having captured the hearts of moviegoers of all ages and inspired future filmmakers in the process. We will be looking forward to more films by the man and it looks like it will be delivered soon as he plans to begin production on the fifth installment of the beloved Indiana Jones franchise next year.
