The DCEU is taking a turn for the better thanks to James Wan’s Aquaman which in itself was a pretty fun flick. Granted, its critical reception may not reach the heights of more recent comic book films like Wonder Woman and Black Panther but it is a pretty solid film overall. People seem to be having a ton of fun with the film and it’s safe to say that we’ll be seeing a sequel sometime in the future if its box-office numbers would allow and it looks like it just might.
The box-office receipts of Aquaman look to be pretty solid so far having been released on the 21st of December… that is in North America. The film got an international release earlier and it looks like that move could have proved pretty successful for the film.
THR reports that Aquaman has grossed $11.2 million in North America on Christmas Eve, giving the Jason Momoa led film the push to reach that $500 million mark. The film has earned $420 million outside North America and $80 million in North America so the film is going to be doing just fine at the box-office. With the film’s budget ranging from $160-200 million, this $500 million mark is not a bad number and it’s safe to say that it would be doing better in the future.
This is just what the DCEU needs following the box-office bomb that was Justice League which was also a pretty crappy film. There’s still some hope for the franchise thanks to Aquaman, so let’s hope Shazam! follows this up nicely.
