James Wan Is No Longer Producer For Resident Evil Movie Reboot

That’s a shame.

The Resident Evil film series didn’t really do the the popular video game series justice but with a reboot coming up, we could get something worthwhile. With its writer revealing that the seventh game in the series heavily inspired his draft for the film, it looks like it may be more horror centered this time around unlike the films which starred Milla Jovovich. It did seem that way for some time now especially after The Conjuring‘s James Wan was announced as producer but it looks like that may not really be the case.

That’s not to say that the reboot would not take a more horror route especially now that we have Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) attached to write and direct the film but it looks horror master Wan isn’t attached to the project anymore. Speaking to Bloody Disgusting, Wan revealed that he’s no longer part of the project and that his name was attached prematurely. He said:

“I’m not doing that anymore. That has been dropped. They announce that I’m attached to a lot of stuff and a lot of them are not necessarily real. It’s kind of annoying when things come and go, or things never came in the first place. I hate it when my projects get announced. It makes it seem like I’m attached to a lot of things when in fact I’m not necessarily doing so many things. A lot of my stuff just get announced and I don’t want them to be announced but people love to announce them.”

Well, that’s a shame… now what’s going to happen to this reboot? Well, Wan wasn’t attached as director but with him as producer, we could really expect the Resident Evil reboot to have the same approach the earlier games and the seventh one had. It’s still early to tell what’s going to happen with this upcoming reboot but let’s hope director Roberts knows what he’s doing.
