The release of the widely anticipated Aquaman starring Jason Momoa in inching closer and closer and it’s safe to say that we can expect the DCEU to deliver something pretty cool. Word has been pretty good on the film with a group of lucky few being able to catch the film earlier so there’s a lot to be excited about. From the information we’ve been gathering of late in regards to the James Wan directed film, the story of Arthur Curry may likely be a turning point for the DCEU especially with the cast involved.
The cast of Aquaman features the likes of Jason Momoa as the titular character, Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Partick Wilson as King Orm, Willen Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta among others. That’s not it however, as we now have word of another noteworthy name on board.
EW reports that Oscar winner Julie Andrews has a previously unannounced part to play in the upcoming Aquaman film. She will apparently voice Karathen, a mythical sea creature that holds the key to Arthur Curry’s quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds. Producer Peter Safran discussed the inclusion of Andrews, saying:
“We wanted the Karathen to have the voice of a classic British actress, albeit somewhat digitally altered, and when we found out Julie was interested and available and excited to do it, casting her was a no-brainer.”
Weirdly enough, Aquaman will be going head-to-head at the box-office with Mary Poppins Returns, the sequel to Julie Andrews’ iconic Mary Poppins released in 1964. Andrews would not be appearing in the sequel as she wanted the film to be “Emily (Blunt)’s show”. She will be somewhere in the DC flick though and it’ll be interesting to see what she adds. It’s Andrews though so it’s probably gonna be posh as f–k.
