Netflix’s The Witcher television series looks like it’s moving forward pretty nicely with Henry Cavill as the lead, Geralt of Rivia but there’s more where that came from. Based on Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels which saw the name garner immense popularity with its acclaimed video game series, the series looks like it may deliver a satisfying fantasy epic for both fans and audiences unfamiliar with its previous forms of media.
The aforementioned Geralt will be played by Superman himself, Henry Cavill but now we have much more news on the rest of the cast (or at least a ton of them). These pertain to the casting of two key characters in the series, Ciri and Yennefer. Ciri is one of the integral figures in the narrative with Geralt serving as a mentor and father figure (in past media at least) to the young princess of Cintra. Yennefer is also pretty badass as a sorceress and Geralt’s love interest who also serves as a mother figure to Ciri. These two are pretty important and we know who will play them among other characters.
THR reports that Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra will join the cast of the series as Ciri and Yennefer respectively. They’re both not very huge but they do have some talent and experience with Allan being in The War of the Worlds and Into the Badlands whereas Chalotra has been seen in The ABC Murders and Wanderlust.
That’s not all as they will be joined by Jodhi May (Game of Thrones, Genius) as Queen Calanthe, Bjorn Hlynur Haraldsson (Fortitude) as her husband, Adam Levy (Knightfall, Snatch) as the druid Mousesack, MyAnna Buring as the head of the magical academy at Aretuza, Tissaia, Mimi Ndiweni (The Legend of Tarzan) and Therica Wilson-Read (Profile) as novice sorcerers, and Millie Brady (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword) as the outcast Princess Renfri.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil, The Defenders) will serve as show-runner so this looks like something to really look forward to. Game of Thrones may be ending its run pretty soon but there will be a prequel series underway to the acclaimed series but with The Witcher to top it all off, we may have a great television run in the epic fantasy department.
