The whole concept of the Quantum Realm is a pretty interesting ordeal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that would likely play a big part in the upcoming Avengers 4. Described by Hank Pym in Ant-Man as “a reality where all concepts of time and space become irrelevant as you shrink for all eternity”, the whole concept still remains elusive. We saw a little bit on the trippy nature of it all in the Ant-Man films and also Doctor Strange but the films didn’t really explore it all that much sadly. However, it looks like the Quantum Realm might be a pretty big deal in the MCU.
Director of the Ant-Man films, Peyton Reed spoke with Screen Rant on the matter while promoting the home release of Ant-Man & The Wasp, revealing that the films have only scratched the surface of the elusive concept. Revealing that he would want to tackle it more, he said:
“Well, I’ll tell you that we, in terms of concepts and even characters in the comic, it’s something that we really do take seriously. Absolutely take into consideration. And I think it goes without saying that there is so much more to explore in the Quantum Realm that we really only in the context of this story, in Ant-Man and the Wasp, we only had time to really scratch the very surface on it. Because it’s really seemingly infinite. So, I would answer it in a general sense that yes, we really want to deal with the Quantum Realm more. Because I think there’s a lot more to deal with. And it’s a whole important side of the Marvel Universe from the comics that I think really I’d love to see rendered in the MCU. And I would love to be a part of that. So, that’s probably the most specific I can be about that answer. But I know that it conceptually really excites me.”
Sounds good. The Quantum Realm is pretty damn awesome and aside from the great visuals, it could really tackle the more science fiction and fantastical elements in the MCU to a greater degree. Ant-Man & The Wasp had a great opportunity to really do this but yeah, that didn’t happen. Perhaps in and after Avengers 4 or even Captain Marvel, they’ll be tackling it much more.
