Star Wars fans are well… “passionate” about the franchise and are very quick to express how they feel about it. If things don’t go their way, they are quick to f–k up the ones behind it in more ways than they should. Quite recently Star Wars: The Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran who played Rose erased all her posts on Instagram due to harassment from Star Wars fans. This isn’t new behavior, take the prequels for example. They messed up an actor so bad, he was contemplating suicide.
It’s no surprise that the Star Wars prequels were horrid films but there are people who like them. George Lucas himself has faced backlash for this along with some of the actors including Jake Lloyd who played kid Anakin, Hayden Christensen who play adolescent Anakin and Ahmed Best who played everyone’s favorite Gungan: Jar Jar Binks. Recently it was revealed that Best had contemplated suicide due to the backlash surrounding his role as Jar Jar Binks. Jar Jar is arguably one of the worst characters in the series but all that aside, fans can go way too far in their resentment towards the film. Director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn thinks so too, taking to Twitter and suggesting that they should go to therapy.

James Gunn is echoing the words of many people who are tired of this bulls–t from toxic fans of any community. No matter what, there’s always a difference between critiquing the art and spewing vitriol towards the artist. Now, it’s weird comparing the prequels to art but Star Wars fans need to chill out and realize that these are just films. We all love Star Wars but honestly, making fun of a bad film is just as fun as enjoying a good one, so honestly, keep the hatred for the filmmakers aside and try to have some fun (without the need to be a d–k of course). Maybe Gunn is right, maybe some fans should go to therapy if these films affected their childhood so much. I mean, it’s not like the films they like are still there for them to watch and enjoy right?
