Despite the divisive fan reception of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and the underwhelming box-office receipts of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Star Wars: Episode IX is still something too look forward to in December of 2019. With production set to begin soon, the film looks to somewhat be going back to basics with the finale to the Disney era Star Wars trilogy. Along with having J.J. Abrams back on board, the film is set to shoot at Cardington Airship Sheds which was the location used for the original Star Wars released way back in 1977 and Rogue One: A A Star Wars Story.
Star Wars News Net heard from English airship historian Trevor Monk that Episode IX will be filming sequences at Cardington Airship Sheds in Bedfordshire, U.K. He revealed:
“Hearing episode IX will have parts filmed at Shed 2 at Cardington. Heard from three different people so far. One works there and said he wouldn’t say – but clued me well, the others are contacts separate from the first person saying the same. Nothing physical yet to show.”
Cardington has had a history with Star Wars dating back to the original masterpiece as it was used to shoot Yavin IV in Star Wars and also spin-off Rogue One. Cardington is no stranger to other productions as the location has been known house big productions such as The Dark Knight, Inception, Justice League and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
It’s unsure what will be filmed in Cardington and whether it will truly bring a call back to the original film like when Abrams did directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It would allow the series to go full circle and perhaps offer up a satisfying conclusion that would resonate greatly with the heart of Star Wars. Let’s hope Abrams doesn’t go too far with making it similar to the original trilogy. After all, despite its acclaim, this was one of the primary complaints of The Force Awakens.
