The Russo Brothers Drop Hints On The Future Of The MCU

OMG Secret Wars?

The recent buyout surrounding the acquisition of some properties from Fox by Disney in regards to the several Marvel characters has left fans excited for the future of the MCU. With the buyout most likely coming into fruition next year, Disney will most likely have big plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the newly acquired X-Men and Fantastic Four.

The Russo brothers seem excited to adapt Secret Wars into the Marvel Cinematic Universe which features the X-Men and Fantastic Four. They have expressed interest in adding the aforementioned superhero groups through the story of Secret Wars which features some intriguing ideas. The question remains as to which version of Secret Wars but it seems like the Russos are interested in the original comic book series published from 1984 to 1985.

The story of the original Secret Wars revolves around a cosmic entity called the Beyonder who is fascinated by the presence of superheroes on Earth. The entity teleports a group of superheroes and villains against their will to “Battleworld” in which- you guessed it, they battle.

In a recent interview with CBR, Joe Russo stated:

“I feel like the mission of the Marvel Universe is to keep expanding and surprising people. Surprise them with casting choices, surprise them with story choices. If we’re moving into this world of crossover events, certainly that affords opportunity for other large-scale stories from the books like Secret Wars”

With Avengers: Infinity War bringing together The Avengers (duh..) and The Guardians of the Galaxy, expanding it further, filling it to the brim with more iconic characters would need further development. The prime reason Infinity War works was that it took its time developing their characters as averse to the rushed production of the DC Extended Universe. Nonetheless, this looks like it can utilize the myriad of Marvel characters with great effect.
