Ho boy, it looks like we will be getting another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Thankfully, unlike the previous Michael Bay-produced TMNT live-action adaptations, this one doesn’t look like it will actively try to brutalise our childhoods, simply judging by the talents that are involved.
According to a Nickelodeon press release (per Collider), we’ve learned that the Network is dedicated to bringing another TMNT movie to the big screen. It will be a reboot and not a continuation of the turtle movies starring Megan Fox. What’s unexpected is the involvement of Point Grey, the production company run by Seth Rogen and his good buddy, Evan Goldberg.
I know what you’re thinking: ARE WE GOING TO GET A TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES STONER COMEDY?
One can dream. I highly doubt we’ll be getting a scene where Raphael, Michelangelo, Leonardo and Donatello smoke a joint on the roof once Master Splinter goes to bed. Though, that would explain why the turtles eat way too much pizza for their own good. #Munchies
The press release also states that director Jeff Rowe (Gravity Falls) has been roped in to helm the film from a script by Brendan O’Brien, who previously penned Neighbours (OK, maybe this is going to be a stoner-comedy Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). There is currently no news on potential actors/actresses that could be involved in the project.
Concerning Rogen and Goldberg’s involvement in the project, ViacomCBS President of Kids & Family Brian Robbins said:
“Adding Seth, Evan and James’ genius to the humor and action that’s already an integral part of TMNT is going to make this a next-level reinvention of the property. I’m looking forward to see what they do, and I know that Ramsey Naito and her team are excited to take the Nick Animation Studio into another great direction with their first-ever CG-animated theatrical.”
