Malaysian cinemas were ordered to shut its doors on the 18th of March as part of the Movement Control Order that was put in place to combat COVID-19. But things have improved significantly in Malaysia as far as the Coronavirus is concerned, and so after months of desperately waiting, cinemas have been given the greenlight to start operating again, from today onwards.
The thing is, the United States is still a complete dumpster fire. With Donald Trump at the helm, America does not have the COVID-19 situation under control at all. Most if not all major studios in Hollywood have postponed all their movies to a much later date, with only a couple of films, such as Mulan and Tenet, still aiming for a summer release.
Considering American movies are essentially what keeps Malaysian cinemas afloat, what on earth are Malaysian cinemas going to be screening? (Note that we won’t be getting Indian and Chinese movies either, considering both India, Hong Kong and China are still trying to cope with the pandemic, as well.)
Well, as it turns out, a lot of older movies. And frankly, that gets me excited!
