Believe it or not, there’s going to be another Scooby-Doo film on the way but this time, it’s going to be animated. We saw two live-action films in the early 2000s based on the ever popular animated series and they were… not very good. The long running franchise still maintains a strong relevance in popular culture so of course, they are going to make another film surrounding those characters. One thing that isn’t stupid about this is that it will be animated which could honestly be pretty fun. The upcoming film is simply titled Scoob which is an…alright title? I guess? and it looks like we have the casting for the gang rounded up.
The Tony Cervone directed film already has a talented cast attached to voice these characters with the likes of Will Forte (Nebraska) to take on Shaggy, Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Velma and Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?) back to voice Scooby. Now, the cast of the gang is complete as we now have our Fred and Daphne.
Deadline reports that Zac Efron (High School Musical) and Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia) have joined the voice cast of Scoob for the roles of Fred and Daphne respectively. Honestly, these two would work well with a live-action incarnation but let’s not give Warner Bros. any ideas cause an animated film sounds just about nice. Along with the names mentioned earlier, the cast also includes Tracy Morgan (30 Rock) who will be voicing Captain Caveman.
The premise of the film revolves around the gang as they join forces with other heroes of the Hanna-Barbera universe to save the world from the plans of the villainous Dick Dastardly (Yeah, that’s the name). It’s hard to say if this film is going to be good but it does sound interesting (Granted, not necessarily in a thought provoking way). Scoob might be able to spark some nostalgia at the very least so that could be enough to make this film enjoyable. Hell, or it could be a masterpiece, who knows?
