The upcoming Shazam! seems like it could really be the film the DCEU needs to really bring the franchise back to its feet along with Aquaman set to be released later this year. Although things are set for those films, the man who started it all- Superman is still in the air. Rumors surfaced on Superman making a cameo in Shazam! making it seem like the DCEU is definitely not done with the character. However, it looks like we shouldn’t bring our hopes up on that.
Mark Hughes, a writer from Forbes appeared on the Superhero News podcast and burst our bubbles revealing that he has not heard of Superman making a return to the screen anytime soon. He said:
“Superman, I can tell you as of three to four weeks ago, last time I checked in, there is not movement on Superman…It’s not currently sitting on the table as a project that they’re looking at moving forward on and there’s no expectation of imminent movement on a Superman project… that’s the situation.”
Although that sounds more in the realm of future Superman films, he also discussed the chances of seeing him in Shazam! and well, the chances seem pretty dim. He revealed:
“I know for now it didn’t work out getting Superman into Shazam!, apparently. Maybe that will change and they’ll be able to film something. There’s still a lot of time before it comes out. As of right now, there’s no Superman in Shazam! and there’s no movement on a Superman solo movie. All this stuff is going to wait until they know for sure.”
He did clarify that things could change but honestly, it’s probably for the best. Shazam! looks promising, even more so than Aquaman and it’ll be much better if they just focus on that film for now. Superman actor Henry Cavill is already having a ball earning praise for his role in Mission: Impossible- Fallout so I’m just happy to see the guy working. It’s best for the DCEU to take their time with their films since rushing into things have only brought them disaster.
