Things don’t look too great for Marvel Studios amidst the firing of Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. In case some are unaware, Disney recently fired Guardians director James Gunn who was set to helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after a bunch of near-decade old tweets surfaced recently. The tweets in question were crude and honestly pretty weird as they were “jokes” related to taboo subject matters such as rape and pedophilia. Disney’s choice to boot Gunn has been discussed for the past couple of days and whether you’re on his side or not, it looks like the cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy are.
Several high-profile names have taken Gunn’s side on this matter including his brother Sean Gunn and other Guardians cast members. Several of these actors have taken to Twitter to express their support for their director including Dave Bautista who plays Drax, Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and Pom Klementieff (Mantis).

Despite whatever Gunn said years ago, it’s real heart-warming to see his crew standing by him. It’s clear that Gunn has had a huge impact on them and that he is genuinely a great guy to work with. One would assume that these actors would be on Disney’s side since you know… they rule the world but it’s really nice to see these actors standing by their captain.
Disney’s move is somewhat understandable since they’re like a “family brand” but they’re basically just giving in to bad PR at the end of the day and that’s not something that would bode well to some people who really care for the franchise. Granted, the cast members are not blatantly lashing out at Disney cause like I said, the move is somewhat understandable and they’ll lose their jobs too but this could be an indirect message to them. It’s unsure if Gunn will be hired back but one thing’s for certain, your record best be squeeky clean if you’re going to work for Disney.
