The new trailer for the DCEU’s Shazam! has been unveiled and it honestly looks great. Along with Aquaman set to be released later this year, Shazam! is looking to be an entry that could really bring life back to the DCEU. Shazam! is a pretty strange yet intriguing character as it follows 14 year old foster child, Billy Batson who is confronted by a wizard who gives him powers to transform into an older, godlike superhero upon uttering the word “Shazam!”.
This all seems a little weird and the title of the character is pretty absurd too, even the film knows that as Billy snickers upon hearing that name. It seems that the film can offer some fun child-like antics and adventures due to the character’s age along with Billy’s foster brother Freddy, who helps him in his journey to become a superhero. The film is directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation) and features a cast which include Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Djimon Hounsou along with Jack Dylan Grazer.
This is looking to be much lighter in tone as compared to other films including the upcoming Aquaman. Hell, with a title and premise like this, it wouldn’t hurt to be much lighter. Hopefully, they don’t go the obnoxious route with the humor as Justice League‘s Flash did (he was fine, but honestly he should learn to shut up now and then).
Honestly, the Aquaman trailer didn’t really impress me all that much as it kinda was what I expected but that doesn’t mean it’s bad by any means. If Aquaman fails to deliver, I’m fairly certain that Shazam! will be able to deliver a solid entry to the DCEU.
