DC films may have undergone a tumultuous process with their films but they sure have some interesting ideas in store. The DCEU despite being PG-13 so far offers up a relatively darker approach on these iconic characters which have been subject to criticism. Although they injected a little more lighthearted energy to Justice League, it was still not a very good film. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is definitely the more lighthearted one which could be a reason they are doing astoundingly well but this darker DCEU is something that juxtaposes the DCEU’s style to the Marvel films. The DCEU seems like they may be offering something within their range but a little differently as well with the upcoming Birds of Prey film.
Aside from some reports of Birds of Prey being a low budget Rated-R film according to Margot Robbie (who will star in the film), there have also been some indication of a crippled Barbara Gordon being in the film as the alter ego Oracle instead of Batgirl. The film seems that it may be more faithful to the comics, featuring Barbara after being crippled in The Killing Joke. This isn’t really a confirmation but more of a possibility following some word of Batgirl being in the film. Journalist Umberto Gonzalez on the other hand has debunked that on Twitter but that’s not the end of the story.
Well, that is quite easy to answer because BATGIRL is NOT in #BIRDSOFPREY

This may come as a disappointment but he does offer a glimmer of hope for the character of Barbara Gordon.
They didn't say that on the record, rather Justin tweeted. Profound difference. Was decided recently no Batgirl. Attention to detail, I didn't say Barbara Gordon, I said Batgirl. 😉

Suicide Squad should have been Rated-R but it sadly did not deliver on that front (or as a good film) but DC is looking to play their cards right. It’s safe to say that this will be tonally different from the previous films for reasons not only pertaining to the film’s Rated-R stamp. Barbara Gordon’s character looks like would be able to serve up a much darker take on the character following the events of The Killing Joke.
There is a chance that with this all girl squad, we’d be seeing some empowering girl power speeches that we’ve seen plenty of but it also offers a chance to really address some heavy subject material some of these characters face. However, this does not mean anything yet so we’ll just wait for now.
